To be like Water?   Exhibiting Artist & Artwork

Zhu Xiaoyun   //   Round No.20

Round No.20, 2017

Ink on paper

100x100cm
The perception of void and time becomes clear when I’m in front of a blank canvas. The idea of which can be supported by idea of “观虚空“. A friend of mine once told me that a zen pratictioner sees circles in eyes during meditation, similar to some of what I see. My interpretation is it as a state in which people sense their consciousness and look out for ways to control it in a strenuous effort. We have sympathy for what others suffer, but feel as if all the human emotions temporary as time passes by, even though time doesn’t mean to take away anything.Materials can be recycled, but time can not. Things that combine the two aspects which contradict each other are of the so-called significance.Materials can be the main focus, so can time. Materials have limitations, whereas time is limitless and takes on many forms. We perceive time by associating ourselves with it, which makes us melancholy and in the same time, fearful of it. The way how we understand time reflects the way how we measure ourselves and do something about it.
