Zhao Yue   //   A Jiaoxi hot spring about to be demolished

I visited Taiwan many times for several months. There I discovered the fascinating hot spring world and became an avid bather, trying all kinds of baths all over the island. Each hot spring has its own waters, setting, mood, color, and texture. Some are even carved out of the earth by people and are for free. These public baths also share a peculiar ambient. It is a space where people can lose themselves in the water, become one with water, and take a rest from more worldly matters. It is also a space where strangers inter-act in different, more fluid ways, and where bonds are formed, connected by water, giving a sense of community for the regular patrons. The watercolors were made from memory, yet in most I let my imagination go free, like water, owing here and there.
