The Banquet, 2015
Installation
Limited edition of 1A chandelier transformed from a large size Chinese banquet table. The hidden lights illuminate the enticing food: king size lobster, all kinds of meat dishes, water melon pieces, etc. It should be suspended from the ceiling with the lowest point just barely untouchable by a viewer standing on the floor. The outcomes of urban renewal, which are also a kind of political achievement of the local government, don’t necessarily produce really benefits that are felt by the ordinary people in the community. The work will try to recreate a lavish banqueting scene that can be viewed as a metaphor for the mega urban renewal achievement, but it is unfortunately beyond the reach of the general public.
