Vilnis Auziņš // Latvia

Vilnis Auziņš (b.1948) was educated in art direction, photography and cinematography at the prestigious Moscow Institute of Culture in 1982, having self educated himself in photography since 1968 previously. He has been a professional photographer and artist since 1976. From 1988 onwards Vilnis has been exhibited across the world hundreds of times both as a solo artist and in group exhibitions; Solo exhibitions at galleries and venues such as FotoStudio 1 (Boston, USA), Parliament House (Riga, Latvia), Castle Olavinlinna (Savonlinna, Finland), Bunka Gallery (Higashikawa, Japan); Group Exhibitions include at the Santa Barbara Art Museum (Santa Barbara, USA), Fotogalerie Wien (Vienna, Austria), The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Athens, Greece), and City Space (Krakow, Poland). Vilnis also regularly contributes to conferences in the field, from Europe to the USA and Japan, since 1987 he has participated in over 30 major seminars. Curation is another aspect of photography he enjoys participating in, having curated more than 200 exhibitions over the last 30 years. He is often reviewed in international photography publications and has affiliations to professional industry organisations such as FotoForma Foundation, Latvian Designers Foundation, Latvian National Commission for UNESCO, European Photography Guide, Imago Editorial Board, and the Latvian Artists Society, among others.
