Chen Yujun // China

Crooked House NO.050525 – 2015

Chen Yujun (born in 1976, Putian, Fujian Province) graduated from the Integrated Art Department, China Academy of Art. Since 2003, his works have been exhibited all over the world (Beijing, Shanghai, Venice, New York, etc.). The most noted one was the highly controversial exhibition co-planned with Ai Weiwei, “Fuck Off 2” in Groninger Museum 2013. His power of creation originates from his unique experience of identity, a nomad frontier experience which has emerged since the coastal migration wave at the end of the Qing Dynasty. The concepts of family, identity and space constitute the core of the artist’s expression. By using various art media, such as collage, oil painting, and installation, the artist attempts to rebuild an internal order in his works, to put together the fragments of a foreign but homesick world. This world has an intense relationship with the ever-changing and unpredictable environment.
